  • Technical Data: Number of strokes, JLPT Level (N5-N1), School Grade (Kyōiku Kanji), and frequency of use.
  • Radicals: Identification and breakdown of the visual components of the Kanji.
  • Usage Examples: List of common words that use the selected Kanji, with their reading and translation.

2.2 Writing and Visualization Tools

  • Stroke Animations: Dynamic step-by-step visualization of the correct writing order for each character (Stroke Order).
  • Visual Guides: Static diagrams indicating the direction and sequence of each stroke.

2.3 Availability and Accessibility

  • Interface adapted to multiple languages (Spanish, English, French, Portuguese).
  • Access compatible with desktop browsers and mobile devices.
  • Read-only service: User account creation is neither required nor permitted, ensuring anonymous and direct access to information.

2.4 Data Source

All kanji and vocabulary data comes from Kanjidic2 and JMdict, databases maintained by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (EDRDG), under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license.

4. JLPT LEVEL CLASSIFICATION

4.1 Important Warning

THE JLPT LEVELS (N5, N4, N3, N2, N1) SHOWN IN KANJIPEDIA ARE GUIDANCE SUGGESTIONS, NOT OFFICIAL CLASSIFICATIONS.

4.2 Basis of Classification

Our classification is based on:

  • Lists compiled by the Japanese learner community
  • Analysis of publicly released JLPT exams from previous years
  • Frequency of appearance in standard study materials
  • General consensus of recognized educational resources

4.3 Absence of Official List

THERE IS NO official list published by the Japan Foundation or Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES) specifying which kanji belong to each JLPT level.

JLPT exams may include kanji outside community lists, and the absence of a kanji from our list at a certain level does NOT guarantee it will not appear in that exam.

4.4 Not Recommended Uses

DO NOT USE this classification as:

  • Guarantee of official JLPT exam content
  • Sole source for official exam preparation
  • Basis for complaints about exam content
  • Formal curricular foundation in accredited educational institutions

4.5 Recommendation

For official JLPT exam preparation, use:

  • Official materials published by Japan Foundation/JEES
  • Certified study books (Shin Kanzen Master, Sou Matome, etc.)
  • Multiple complementary resources from recognized sources
  • Kanjipedia as an additional reference tool, not primary

  • Verify information with additional academic sources
  • Use recognized academic reference dictionaries

WARNINGS:
